Marco Abella “Loidana,” Priorat DOQ, Spain
From one of Priorat’s most distinctive and rugged appellations, Marco Abella’s Loidana is a wine that speaks unmistakably of its dramatic terroir — the ancient, slate-and-quartz llicorella soils that give Priorat its legendary minerality and concentration. Typically a blend of old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena, this is a wine of serious depth and character, opening with intense aromas of wild dark fruit — blackberry, black cherry, and dried fig — layered with garrigue, crushed slate, lavender, and a seductive hint of dark chocolate. On the palate it is full-bodied and commanding, with the structured tannins and powerful grip that define great Priorat, yet balanced by a lively acidity that keeps the wine fresh and food-friendly. The finish is long and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of roasted herbs, black olive, and sun-baked earth — a true expression of one of Spain’s most celebrated wine regions. Ideal alongside roasted lamb, wild mushroom dishes, aged Manchego, or any of KSC’s heartier autumn and winter menus. Drink now through 2030, or cellar for greater complexity.
